Dar es Salaam. President Jakaya Kikwete has urged American businessmen and companies to increase their investments in Tanzania, saying the country has unique attractions and the capacity of receiving ten times the current number of American investors in the country.
The current value of American businesses in Tanzania, according Mr Kikwete is $328.8 million (about Sh526.4 billion) but with the available opportunities, the two countries have the ability of pushing up further business volumes.
The President says this in a statement issued on Friday ahead of his participation in a crucial three-day USA-Africa Leaders Summit which organised by US President Barack Obama. The three-day summit starts today in Washington DC –and will attract leaders from 47 African countries, including Mr Kikwete.
The President says further: “During this USA-Africa Leaders’ Summit, I, with my fellow African leaders, join hands to congratulate President Obama for coming up with the idea and hosting this meeting of its kind for African leaders.
“The hosting of these heads of state meeting is a clear indication of how President Obama is determined to strengthen the relationship between Africa and the US as well as speeding up economic development and poverty reduction in the Continent,” Mr Kikwete said.
The Tanznian leader says the meeting will provide an opportunity for Africa to tell its story on how its development is obtained through social, economic and political aspects. He notes that it will also be an avenue for African leaders to showcase available investment opportunities in their continent.
